The Third “Wonderful World” International Student Public Welfare Media Art Exhibition 2019 -Script & Novel Contest-

Thanks to the strong support of municipal governments of Qingdao, Guiyang and Guangzhou, the two consecutive sessions of “Wonderful World International Student Public Welfare Media Art Exhibition” in 2017 and 2018 were crowned with a complete success, with active participation by teachers and students of 22 domestic and international universities from 10 countries along the “Belt and Road”. The “Wonderful World International Student Public Welfare Media Art Exhibition” has emerged as a distinctive international platform for cultural and education exchanges, winning the recognition of faculty and students from universities both at home and abroad. Accordingly, the Script and Novel Contest is launched as an additional part of the exhibition in 2019. The “Wonderful World” International Student Public Welfare Creation Competition 2019 will hold Script & Novel Contest with the annual theme of  “Human, Animal and the World”, which will be open to students mainly from colleges and universities in hope of raising our joint concerns on various issues related to social development and ecological environment through scripts and novels.

II. Judges 


Chairman: Meng Fanhua, renowned scholar and commentator, Vice President of Chinese Association of Contemporary Literature, judge of Mao Dun Literature Prize and Lu Xun Literature Prize. 

Zhang Qinghua, renowned scholar and commentator, Executive Director of International Writing Center of Beijing Normal University, judge of Mao Dun Literature Prize and Lu Xun Literature Prize. 

Cong Xinqiang, renowned scholar and commentator, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of School of literature, Shandong University, and contracted commentator of Shandong Province. 

Liu Jiangkai, renowned scholar and professor of the School of Arts & Communication of Beijing Normal University, Executive Director of the project “Looking China International Youth Film Project”.

Liu Ting, well-known author and screenwriter, Editor of People’s Literature, winner of Hong Kong Youth Literary Awards and Chen Zi’ang Poetry Awards. His published works include Chinese Strange Tale,  What to Eat, That is the Question, Floating Life and The Lives of Others . 

An Jing, doctor of literature, famous editor, Editorial Director of Selected Stories. 


III. Script and Novel Creation 


1.Theme: Human, Animal, and the World

2.Participants: undergraduates, postgraduates or Ph.D. students from colleges and universities at home and abroad. 

3.Requirements of works: Text type: 1. Scripts (no shorter than 30 minutes) 2. Novels (short) 

Specific requirements: 

1) All entries shall be related to the theme of the competition, and can be written in both Chinese and English. 

2) Contents of entries shall be positive and inspiring, and not involve obscenity, violence, murder, reaction, racial or religious discrimination, etc. 

3) Each entry shall be original and unpublished; Works that have been published in a paper publication or online platform shall not be submitted. Otherwise, the participant will be disqualified. 

4) Hosts reserve the right to promote and adapt the works in this public welfare activity.  

5) Winners of this competition will be awarded with provincial and ministerial-level certificates by the Organizing Committee. Some will be invited to participate in the award ceremony of this competition. 

6) Deadline for submission: May 10, 2019 

Deadline for review: May 18, 2019.

7) The judges of the competition consist of experts from Beijing Normal University, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, East China Normal University, Shandong University, Ocean University of China, Qingdao University and Qingdao University of Science and Technology and famous domestic writers. 

Note: registration form and works shall be sent to designated email or uploaded to the official website by April 26, 2019. 


III. Award Settings


Prizes for novels (4 classes): 

2 first-prize winners (undergraduate group and postgraduate & Ph.D. student group), with a prize worth CNY 1,000;

4 second-prize winners (2 for undergraduate group and 2 for postgraduate & Ph.D. student group), with a prize worth CNY 500;

6 third-prize winners (3 for undergraduate group and 3 for postgraduate & Ph.D. student group), with a prize worth CNY 200; 

10 creation-prize winners. 

Prizes for scripts (4 classes): 

2 first-prize winners (undergraduate group and postgraduate & Ph.D. student group), with a prize worth CNY 1,000;

V. Ownership of Copyright of Works Exhibited and Relevant Rules:  


1.Participants shall guarantee that all works are solely created by himself or herself, or co-created by the group, otherwise he/she must be disqualified from the exhibit. 

2.During exhibition, participants shall not assign his/her works to a third party, or allow such a third-party to use his/her works. 

3.Hosts reserve the priority to adapt the works in this public welfare activity. 

4.Hosts shall reach consensus with the creators or the creation teams and pay the due copyright remuneration before using their works in this exhibition for commercial purposes. 

5.The Third “Wonderful World International Student Public Welfare Media Art Exhibition” 2019 will strictly comply with this regulation. All students who participate in the activity shall be deemed to acknowledge and accept this regulation from the date of registration. The Chinese version shall prevail in case of any issues arising from the translation of the Chinese and English versions of this regulation. This regulation shall go into effect as of the date of release. The Organizing Committee of ISPWMAE reserves the right of final interpretation.
