Introduction to the Third “Wonderful World” International Student Public Welfare Media Art Exhibition 2019

I. Preface 


In order to implement the Central Government’s instructions to deepen cultural exchanges, strengthen cooperation in education, culture and other fields and seek popular support for the Belt and Road initiative, the Third “Wonderful World” International Student Public Welfare Media Art Exhibition 2019 will be held from May 25 to June 1, 2019 in Fengxian, Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by the China International Culture Exchange Center, the People’s Government of Fengxian District, Shanghai, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, etc., with nearly 30 first-class universities from 13 countries at home and abroad expected to participate in the event.


Thanks to the great support of municipal governments of Qingdao and Guiyang, both two editions of “Wonderful World” Public Welfare Creation Competition  in 2017 and 2018 were crowned with complete success, attracting teachers and students of 24 domestic and international universities from 12 countries along the “Belt and Road”, and achieving good social impact. The event has displayed a number of excellent IP works and has become a domestic public welfare creation platform for international cultural and educational exchanges with distinctive features. 


The third edition, focusing on the idea of “Wonderful World”, invites college and secondary school students from all over the world, especially from countries along the “Belt and Road” to create, with “Human and Animal” as the theme, film and television works, animations, cartoons and stories about public welfare and culture through new media, to raise concerns about various global issues related to the relations between human and environment, science and technology, and animals, and between cross-cultural integration and communication, and cultural heritage and innovation, promote students’ exchanges and mutual learning, and build an international public welfare-based platform integrating humanistic education, academic communication and new media art. In addition to the part of college student exchanges in the previous two sessions, the International Primary and Secondary School Student Competition becomes a new part of the Wonderful World 2019, which encourages students to tell stories about the “Oriental Beauty Valley” of Fengxian District in Shanghai in the new era and about its industrial goal of improving people’s beauty and health with stylish cosmetics and mask products in the form of comics or illustrations that should demonstrate truth, goodness and beauty.

VI. Content 


(1) Annually specified theme of creation: “Human and Animal”

(Annual program for participating universities which are invited)


1.Participants: undergraduates, postgraduates or Ph.D. students (as team members); each team is guided by a senior professor from a university at home or abroad. 

2.Requirements for works: two forms of creation (live-action short films and short animated films) are allowed in this part (at least 1 to 2 works for each university). Please see the attachment for details.

(2) City memory “From Shanghai to Malacca” (72-hour image and animation production, an on-site activity only for international college student teams invited) 


1.Theme of 72-hour image and animation production: City Memory “From Shanghai to Malacca”

2.Participants and creation forms 

Undergraduates, postgraduates or Ph.D. students participating in the on-site activities will make up international cross-over groups, each consisting of a senior professor at home or abroad and members with at least two different nationalities. Groups are arranged on site. 


3.Locations for production, awards evaluation and awarding: Malaysia 


(Note: Only the entries submitted on site by participating teams are qualified for prizes) 


(3) International Primary and Secondary School Student Comics & Illustration Competition 

(Primary and Secondary School Students, Open Solicitation) 

All entries shall present the people, events and objects in participants’ own countries and demonstrate truth, goodness and beauty in the form of illustration or comics (primary and secondary school students in China mainly present people, events and objects in Fengxian District, Shanghai, China). Participants can choose one or both of the two themes: 


1. Theme of Public welfare (unlimited materials) 

2. Special Theme of “Oriental Beauty Valley”: All entries shall, under the theme of the “Oriental Beauty Valley” of Fengxian District in Shanghai, tell stories about the district’s industrial goal of improving people’s beauty and health with stylish cosmetics and mask products. All entries shall demonstrate truth, goodness and beauty in the form of illustration or comics whose expression way (such as watercolor, water powder, crayon, color pencil, etc.) shall be unrestricted. Only electronic A4-size entries with the resolution of dpi300 or above are accepted. Entries in color or black/white are both acceptable; Classification of entries: single or more illustrations, multiple-strip (4-12) comics;

Deadline for submission: May 15, 2019. 

Note: All entries of international primary and secondary school students shall be submitted uniformly by the cartoon or animation association of their own country. 


(4) Script & Novel Creation 

(Domestic College Students, Open Solicitation) 


1.Theme: Human, Animal, and the World

2.Participants: undergraduates, postgraduates or Ph.D. students from colleges and universities at home or abroad. 

3.Requirements for works: Text type: 1) novels (short) 2) scripts (no longer than 30 minutes) Specific requirements: The works shall be related to the theme of the competition, and can be written in both Chinese and English

(5) VC Short Video Creation 

(Open solicitation) 


1.Free creation with unlimited materials 

All participants shall download the VC Short Video APP, and use the 10 templates provided therein to create 10-15s short videos with any materials.

-Time for submission: from April 1, 2019 to May 15, 2019. 

-Winners will be announced on May 25 in the special section of the official website and will be awarded with prizes and certificates. 

-There are 6 first-prize winners, 12 second-prize winners, 30 third-prize winners and 50 excellent-prize winners. Please refer to the official website for details.

2.Creation with designated materials 


All participants shall create VC short videos based on materials from films and television works, animations, cartoons and illustration on Wonderful World 2019 website. They shall use the 10 templates provided therein to freely create or edit 10-15s short videos;

-Deadline for submission: July 30, 2019; 

-Winners will be announced on August 30 in the special section of the official website and will be awarded with prizes and certificates. 

-There are 6 first-prize winners, 12 second-prize winners, 30 third-prize winners and 50 excellence prize winners. Please refer to the official website for details.
